Tuesdays at the Castle
by: Jessica Day George
The only thing better than a lovely book is a lovely book in a series. That way, when you fall in love with a character, you can keep up with him/her!
Tuesdays at the Castle, by Jessica Day George, is the first book in its own series, and it incorporates many of my favorite elements: castles, princesses, adventure, and a little bit of magic.
Who would love this book: Readers of Gail Carson Levine’s Ella Enchanted
“Eleven year-old princess Celie lives with her parents, the king and queen, and her brothers and sister at Castle Glower, which adds rooms or stairways or secret passageways most every Tuesday, and when the king and queen are ambushed while travelling, it is up to Celie – the castle’s favorite – with her secret knowledge of its never-ending twists and turns, to protect their home and save their kingdom.” – Bloomsbury Publishing
Celie is a feisty, kindhearted, and adventurous protagonist, accompanied by her siblings who offer comic relief throughout the book. And let’s be honest – it’s always a fun story line when it’s up to the kids to save their family. 😉 Plus, the idea of the Castle itself as its own character is intriguing and adds a touch of mystery to the novel.
I highly recommend this book to your fantasy, adventure-loving middle grade reader.
